Martha Ellen Lowhorn, daughter of Joshua D. Lowhorn and Louisa Stockton, was born 28 January 1837 in Clinton County, Kentucky.¹ Martha Ellen Lowhorn was the daughter of Joshua D. Lowhorn and Louisa Stockton. On the census of 1840 in Clinton County, Kentucky, Martha Ellen was probably a female under 5 years of age residing with Joshua Lawhorn.² The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 22 August 1850 in District 2, Clinton County, Kentucky, listed Martha E. "Lowhorn" as a 13-year-old residing with Joshua Luohan.³ She married John Robinson Cumming Jr., son of John Robinson Cumming Sr. and Martha B. (Land) Cumming, on 14 December 1858 in Clinton County, Kentucky..^4,5
