Rappleye was born circa 1833 in Seneca County, New York.1 He was the son of Samuel Rappleye and Sarah Ann Wakeman.1 On the census of 1840 in Covert Township, Seneca County, New York, Oscar A. was probably a male of 5 and under 10 years of age residing with Samuel Rappleye.2 The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 30 July 1850 in Macon Township, Lenawee County, Michigan, listed Oscar A. "Rappleye", a farmer, as a 17-year-old residing with Samuel Rappleye.1 He married Phoebe Smith circa 1865 in Lenawee County, Michigan..3 Oscar A. Rappleye and Phoebe Smith were divorced before 1870 in Lenawee County, New York.3,4
