Emerilla R. Marsh

      Emerilla R. Marsh was commonly known as Ameila. She, daughter of Jonas J. Marsh and Philinda Quick, was born 11 June 1832 in Steuben County, New York.^1,2 Emerilla R. Marsh was the daughter of Jonas J. Marsh and Philinda Quick. Emerilla R. Marsh married William Metcalf, son of William Metcalf and Eleanor Thistle Hutchinson, on 14 March 1847 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan..³ The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 31 July 1850 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan, listed Emerilla "Medcalf" as a 19-year-old residing with William Medcalf.⁴ The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated on 13 June 1860 in the Watrousville post office area of Ellington Township, Tuscola County, Michigan, listed Emerralla Medcalf as a 28-year-old residing with Wm. Medcalf.⁵ The census of 1 June 1870 enumerated on 11 July 1870 in the Ellington post office area of Ellington Township, Tuscola County, Michigan, listed Emarilla "Metcalf", as a 38-year-old residing with William Metcalf.⁶ The census of 1 June 1880 enumerated on 13 June 1880 in Ellington Township, Tuscola County, Michigan, listed Emerela "Medcalf", as the 46-year-old mother of George Medcalf.⁷ She was very enterprising and had a private farmers market. She took all vegetables and fruit and delivered to tourists and summer people. She also did the work of a midwife and veterinarian and was very good at it⁸ The census of 1 June 1900 enumerated on 14 June 1900 in Beaver Creek Township, Crawford County, Michigan, listed Emma R. Medcalf, who had been married 53 years, with 15 children of whom 7 were still living, as the 68-year-old wife of William Medcalf.⁹ Emerilla R. Metcalf died on 15 August 1910 in Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan, of old age/heart attack.^10,11 She was buried in the Ellington Cemetery, Ellington Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.^1,12 She was posthumously sealed as a spouse of William Metcalf on 14 December 1983 in in Ogden, Weber County, Utah, Temple Code:OGDEN.¹ Emerilla R.
