     Benton Polk Willingham was born 7 March 1841 in Wingo, Graves County, Kentucky.1 He was the son of Alexander H. Willingham and Mary H. Murray. The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 31 August 1850 in Graves County, Kentucky, listed Benton "Willingham", born in Kentucky as a 9-year-old male residing with A. H. Willingham.2 The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated on 8 September 1860 in the Mayfield post office area of Graves County, Kentucky, listed Poke "Willingham" as a 19-year-old residing with A. H. Willingham.3 Benton Polk Willingham began military service on 12 September 1861 in Columbus, Fulton County, Kentucky; in Company A, 7th Regiment, Kentucky MountedInfantry of the Confederate Army.1,4 He served in the military; four years in Company H, 7th Kentucky Infantry of the Confederate Army.1 He was captured on 17 April 1865 in Selma, Dallas County, Alabama, and paroled at Columbus, Mississippi.1,4 He married Lucy E.
