Mary L. Covington was born January 1844 in Kentucky.1,2 She married William Albert Hipp, son of Samuel Leonidas Hipp Sr. and Meeky East, in 1867..3 The census of 1 June 1870 enumerated on 5 August 1870 in the Brocktown post office area of Missouri Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed Mary L. "Hipp", as a 24-year-old residing with William A. Hipp.1 The census of 1 June 1880 enumerated on 22 June 1880 in Thompson Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed Masry L. "Hipps", as the 36-year-old wife of Wm. A. Hipps.4
On 10 July 1883 Mary L. Hipp homesteaded 154.98 acres of land in Township 8 South, Range 25 West, Section 1, Pike County, Arkansas,

Marvin K. "Hipps", 23-year-old son, a farm laborer.2
She applied for a military pension as the widow of William Albert Hipp on 9 August 1909 in Arkansas; for his service in the Arkansas Infantry from 1861 to 1865.6 The census of 15 April 1910 enumerated on 29 April 1910 in Prairie Township, Hot Spring County, Arkansas, listed Mary Hipp, born in Kentucky, with 4 children all of whom were still living, as the 66-year-old widowed mother-in-law of William Z. Stone.7 Mary L. Hipp died on 13 March 1927 in Hot Spring County, Arkansas.8Kertis A. "Hipps", 27-year-old son, a farm laborer.2
