     William Albert Hipp was born 25 January 1837 in Laurens District, South Carolina.1 He was the son of Samuel Leonidas Hipp Sr. and Meeky East. The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated on 6 August 1860 in the Antoine post office area of Missouri Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed W. A. Hipps as a 23-year-old residing with Meeky Hipps.2 William Albert Hipp served in the military between 1861 and 1865; 6th Arkansas Infantry of the Confederate Army
     He served under William J. Kelly, Captain, W. M. Gilmer, First Lieutenant, Granderson P. Preston, Second Lieutenant, Dr. B. R. Dickson, Third Lieutenant. Fought in the battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and in the defense of Fort Hudson where he was captured.3
He married Mary L. Covington in 1867..1
The census of 1 June 1870 enumerated on 5 August 1870 in the Brocktown post office area of Missouri Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed the following:
William A. Hipp, 33-year-old head of household, a farm laborer.4
Mary L. "Hipp", 24-year-old.4
Metta D. "Hipp", 1-year-old.4
Meeky "Hipp", 55-year-old, a housekeeper, b:South Carolina.4

The census of 1 June 1880 enumerated on 22 June 1880 in Thompson Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed the following:
Wm. A. Hipps, 43-year-old head of household, a farmer.5
Masry L. "Hipps", 36-year-old wife.5
Mattie D. "Hipps", 11-year-old daughter.5
Cora A. "Hipps", 8-year-old daughter.5
Alvin C. "Hipps", 7-year-old son.5
Marvin "Hipps", 4-year-old son.5
William Albert Hipp died on 31 July 1882 in the Little Missouri River, Pike County, Arkansas, of drowning.6
The census of 1 June 1900 enumerated on 5 June 1900 in Thompson Township, Pike County, Arkansas, listed the following:
Mary L. Hipps, 56-year-old widowed female head of household, a farmer with 4 children all of whom were still living.7
Kertis A. "Hipps", 27-year-old son, a farm laborer.7
Marvin K. "Hipps", 23-year-old son, a farm laborer.7
Mary L. Hipp applied fora military pension as the widow of William Albert Hipp on 9 August 1909 in Arkansas; for his service in the Arkansas Infantry from 1861 to 1865.6 His wife, Mary L. Hipp, died on 13 March 1927 in Hot Spring County, Arkansas.8
