Mary Rosetta Craig

     Mary Rosetta Craig, daughter of John B. Craig and Jane (Reed) Craig, was born 10 June 1814 in Kentucky.¹ Mary Rosetta Craig was the daughter of John B. Craig and Jane (Reed) Craig. Mary Rosetta Craig married Benjamin Harrison Baird, son of Isham Harrison Baird and Clarissa Bushnell, on 30 January 1834 in Van Buren County, Arkansas..² On the census of 1840 in West Fork Township, Washington County, Arkansas, Mary Rosetta was probably a female of 20 and under 30 years of age residing with B. H. Beard.³ The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated on 15 August 1860 in the Franklikn post office area of the Long Tom Precinct, Lane County, Oregon, listed Mary R. Baird, a housewife, born in KY, as a 46-year-old female residing with B. H. Baird.⁴ Her husband, Benjamin Harrison Baird, died on 24 October 1864 in Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon, of a grizzely bear attack.² Mary Rosetta Baird married William H. Ross about 1868 in Oregon..^1,5 The census of 1 June 1900 enumerated on 18 June 1900 in the Brooks Precinct, Marion County, Oregon, listed Rose May Robinson, born in KY, who had been married 32 years, with 16 children of whom 10 were still living, as the 85-year-old mother-in-law of William Harris.⁵ Mary Rosetta Ross died on 6 September 1901 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.^2,6 She was buried in the Brainard Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.⁶
