McKenney, was born 30 November 1838 in Clinton County, Kentucky.1 On the census of 1840 in Clinton County, Kentucky, Mary Elizabeth Light was probably a female under 5 years of age residing with William Craft.2 The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 1 November 1850 in Precinct 2, Paris, Lamar County, Texas, listed Mary S. "Craft" as the 14-year-old residing with William G. Craft.3 She married James F. Hancock, son of Leander Morrow Hancock and Catherine C. Moxley, on 6 February 1859 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas..4 The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated on 30 August 1860 in Precinct 6, Paris, Lamar County, Texas, listed Mary "Hancock" as the 23-year-old residing with L. M. Hancock.5 Mary Elizabeth Light Hancock and James F. Hancock were divorced before 1870 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.6,7 Husband and wife were living separately.
