Ira Ivan Baird was born 17 November 1873 in Bear Pct., Washington County, Oregon.1,2 He was the son of Carroll Baird and Sarepta Abigail Taylor. Ira Ivan Baird married Flota Rachella Hindman on 10 September 1899 in Weiser, Washington County, Idaho..1      Anecdote of Vera Baird by Mary Sullivan
An experience told to her by her mother, Flota Hindman Baird:
Vera Baird tells of her experience of the place they lived in Wild Horse Canyon on the Snake River in Idaho. That her dad caught and broke wild horses, not very well broke, but just enough for a very trained rider. One day, Flota was going to town with Vera. Flota went out to saddle the horse and had it at the front of the house waiting to be mounted. Flota went in the house and wrapped up little Vera in a bundle with a handle on it. Took her out and placed her on the fence leading out of the property. Flota went back and mounted the wild horse that took off with her towards the fence where she had placed little Vera. On Flota's wild ride out of the fence, she grabbed up little Vera by the handle she had made and off they went
2 Orlando (Uncle Len) and Benjamin (Ben) were the two brothers with Ira(Grandpa) in the stealing episode (about 1901). Grandpa, grandma & mom (Vera) ran to the hole in the wall country in Montana for a couple of years, then they went back to Boise, but it was still too hot and they went to Canada where they homesteaded (about 1906). In 1908, Federal Agents came and took grandpa away in handcuffs, leaving grandma and mom (Vera) to close down the homestead and follow2
Ira Ivan moved to a residence in Montana circa 1901.2 He moved to a residence in Boise, Ada County, Idaho, circa 1905.2 He moved to a residence in Canada in 1906.2 He moved to a residence in Boise, Ada County, Idaho, in 1908.2
Ira Ivan Baird was tried in criminal court for stealing in 1908 in Boise, Ada County, Idaho, . He was found innocent of all charges.2      After the trial and things were over, they moved to Arizona where Ira had land to farm. His crop was cotton and that year was a good year for cotton, the best ever. Until the day of picking and taking to the buyers to find out the bottom had fallen on the price to sell. The cotton set on the docks and rotted. This left them in debt, that he got another job to pay back his bills. It is said he died broke but owing nobody anything. At this time, Ira and Flota were not living together.
This was told to me by his grandson, John Norman Larsen Jr. 24 February 1998
2 He died on 27 July 1933 in Globe, Gila County, Arizona.1,2
