     Mattie C. Baird was born circa 1872 in Arkansas.1 She was the daughter of Joseph Alvin Baird and Mary Ann Elizabeth Hipp. Conflicting evidence states that Mattie was born on 18 December 1875.2,3 She married James C. Massey on 11 December 1892 in Nevada County, Arkansas. Permission of H. L. Massey, Joseph Alvin Baird, and Mary Ann Elizabeth Baird for issuance of the marriage license.2,4
The census of 1 June 1900 enumerated on 28 June 1900 in the North half of Precinct 4, Red River County, Texas, listed the following:
James Massey, 27-year-old head of household, a farmer, married 7 years.3
Mattie C. "Massey", 24-year-old wife, married 7 years with 1 child who was still living.3
Joseph C. "Massey", 5-year-old son.3

The census of 15 April 1910 enumerated on 15 April 1910 in Precinct 1, Paris, Lamar County, Texas, listed the following:
J. C. Massey, 36-year-old head of household, a crate factory machinist, married 17 years.5
Mattie "Massey", 33-year-old wife, married 17 years with 4 children all of whom were still living.5

J. C. Massey, 46-year-old head of household, a confectionary salesman.6
Mattie "Massey", 40-year-old wife.6

Iman "Massey", 16-year-old son.6
James "Massey", 10-year-old son.6
The census of 1 April 1930 enumerated on 9 April 1930 in Precinct 98, Block 1528, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, listed the following:
John C. Massey, 57-year-old head of household, a manufacturing plant night watchman, married first at the age of 20.7
Mattie "Massey", 54-year-old wife, a department store dressmaker, married first at the age of 17.7
Iman C. "Massey", 26-year-old son, a paint contractor, married first at the age of 21.7
James "Massey", 20-year-old son, a bank assistant cashier.7
Mattie C. Massey died on 16 March 1961 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.8,4 She was buried in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at section H, lot 7, space 2.4
