Mattie C. Baird was born circa 1872 in Arkansas.1 She was the daughter of Joseph Alvin Baird and Mary Ann Elizabeth Hipp. Conflicting evidence states that Mattie was born on 18 December 1875.2,3 She married James C. Massey on 11 December 1892 in Nevada County, Arkansas. Permission of H. L. Massey, Joseph Alvin Baird, and Mary Ann Elizabeth Baird for issuance of the marriage license.2,4
