     James W. Willingham was born circa 1822 in Kentucky.1 He was the son of Isaac Willingham and Mary Ann Collins. On the census of 1830 in Graves County, Kentucky, James W. was probably a male of 5 and under 10 years of age residing with Isaac Willingham.2 On the census of 1840 in Graves County, Kentucky, James W. was probably a male of 15 and under 20 years of age residing with Isaac Wellingham.3 He married Mary E. __?__ circa 1846 in Graves County, Kentucky..1,4
The census of 1 June 1850 enumerated on 10 August 1850 in Graves County, Kentucky, listed the following:
J. W. Willingham, 28-year-old male head of household, a farmer; b:Kentucky.1
M. E. Willingham, 24-year-old female, b:Tennessee.1
S. A. Willingham, 1-year-old female, b:Kentucky.1 The slave census enumerated on 10 August 1850 in District 1, Graves County, Kentucky, listed J. W. Willingham as the owner of 2 male and 3 female slave(s).5

On 1 April 1857 James W. Willingham patented 120 acres of land in Cedar County, Missouri.
"... the North West quarter of the South West quarter of Section Seventeen and the West half of the south East quarter of Section Eighteen in Township Thirty six of Range Twenty eight in the District of Lands subject to sale at Warsaw Missouri containing one hundred and twenty acres ..."6

On 1 May 1857 James W. Willingham patented 200 acres of land in Cedar County, Missouri.
"... the west half of the north west quarter of Section Seventeen, the south east quarter of the north east quarter and the east half of the south east quarter of Section eighteen in Township thirty six of Range twenty eight in the district of Lands subject to sale at Warsaw Missouri containing Two hundred acres ..."7

The census of 1 June 1860 enumerated in 1860 in the Clintonville post office area of Box Township, Cedar County, Missouri, listed the following:
J. W. Willingham, 37-year-old head of household, a farmer.8
Mary E. Willingham, 32-year-old.8
Sarah A. "Willingham", 11-year-old.8
Lucy W. "Willingham", 9-year-old.8
John "Willingham", 1-year-old.8
He died before 1870, presumably as his wife shows up as head of household in the 1870 census.9
The census of 1 June 1870 enumerated on 11 July 1870 in the Feliciana post office area of the Felicianna Precinct, Graves County, Kentucky, listed the following:
