     Ruth Jane Lawhorn was born circa 1849 in Clinton County, Kentucky.1 She was the daughter of James Lowhorn and Lavina Pierce. The census of 1 June 1870 enumerated on 21 July 1870 in the Burkesville post office area of the Whetstone Precinct, Cumberland County, Kentucky, listed R. J. Lowhon, as a 20-year-old residing with W. J. Self.2 The census of 1 June 1880 enumerated on 2 June 1880 in Creelsboro District Number 2, Russell County, Kentucky, listed Jane Lawhorn, a servant, as a 29-year-old female residing with Stephen Sloan.3
