     James Lawhorn, son of Daniel Laughon and Sarah Swain, was born about 1807 in Bedford County, Virginia.1 James Lawhorn was the son of Daniel Laughon and Sarah Swain. On the census of 1810 in Bedford County, Virginia, James was probably a male under 10 years of age residing with Daniel Laughon.2 On the census of 1820 in Bedford County, Virginia, James was probably a male of 10 and under 16 years of age residing with Daniel Lorhorn.3 He married Sarah __?__ about 1829..4 James Lawhorn provided the surety bond for the marriage of Jeremiah Dixon and Sarah Lawhorn on 6 January 1835 in Greenup County, Kentucky.5 James Lawhorn provided the surety bond for the marriage of Daniel Lawhorn and Malinda Ferguson on 28 December 1836 in Greenup County, Kentucky.5
The census of 1840 in Greenup County, Kentucky, listed James Lawhorn as a head-of-household with tallies 021001-00001 which indicates:
